Driving Traffic and Revenue through SEO & Blogging
Brandon Grill is the SEO strategist and blog leader at B.G. Copywriter, where he specializes in mental health content creation to support clinicians and founders in the field.
For those that don’t know, SEO stands for “search engine optimization”, which, in Grill’s words, “is a fancy way to say ‘getting your site to show up in Google searches.’ It's an aspect of marketing that has both technical and non-technical components.”
For therapists specifically, SEO matters for attracting a steady stream of new clients.
“Blog writing helps with SEO because each blog is another way for people to find you, whether they're searching for "What is EMDR?" or "Sex therapist near me in NYC."
Ultimately, you’re aiming to build enough momentum to reach a compound effect threshold where:
More blogs 👉 More website (SEO) traffic 👉 More clients/ revenue 👉 More blogs
“Over time (think 6 months to 2 years), your website traffic will grow, as will your ‘conversions’ (what marketers call it when someone goes from a reader to a paying client).”
Grill concludes with 5 core pieces of advice for therapists:
Make sure each service/specialty you offer has a dedicated service page on your website.
Write blogs at a regular cadence (I recommend 1 per week). Include links to service pages on your blogs where readers can sign up for a therapy session or other service.
Think long-term. You have to be consistent and in it for the long-haul to see lasting results.
Resist the voice in your head that says it needs to be perfect. Just put it out there!
When you’re just starting, pay a good SEO writer to edit your writing and content strategy. There’s a lot that goes into writing blogs that grow your business. Short-term paid feedback can make sure you’re approaching it the right way.
As all writers know, you can’t edit what’s not written… So get writing!
